Finding Extra Cash to Stretch Your BudgetWhen you’re trying to cut expenses and stick to a budget, it can seem at times that it’s almost impossible to tighten the proverbial belt another inch or two. If you need some extra money but just can’t seem to find it within your budget, you may need to step outside the budget and find it elsewhere. If you live in the U.S., tax season runs from January 1 through April 15. If you’ll be getting a refund, consider taking that money and applying the entire windfall to one or more credit card bills. You could save quite a bit on the interest that would have accrued on that amount and you’ll have a pretty good head-start on your debt-elimination project. Go through the house and sort out items your family isn’t using any longer. Selling them on eBay, in a garage sale, or through the classifieds is a very easy way to bring in quick cash. Do this especially around the holidays—also a great way to make space for the gifts you’ll receive, as well as get a jump on your spring cleaning. Another way to find extra money is by earning extra money. This doesn’t have to be a form of punishment. There are a lot of part-time jobs and side business out there. Many can be done from home and can even be fun! If you’re a people person and enjoy selling, you can earn a little extra money and have some fun while you’re at it by signing up with a direct sales company. You can host home parties a few nights a week or on the weekend. Some talented and outgoing ladies have been known to bring in $100-$200 or more from just one party! If leaving the house is an issue due to child care, there are many jobs you can take on right from your own home. Many companies are now offering telecommuting positions and you can find these jobs performing Google searches, visiting job boards such as Home Job Stop, searching through the classifieds at 4MomsAtHome.com, or the many work at home message boards out there. Just be sure to do your homework--check out the opportunities and watch out for scams. There really is no success without work so keep your senses and don’t fall for get-rich-quick schemes. You can also turn your own talents into a side business. Do you enjoy baking? You could make and sell decorated cakes for birthdays, holidays, weddings, and more. How about photography? Offer to take photographs or videos at special events for a fee. Don't get discouraged. It may take some creativity and ingenuity, but it really is possible to earn some extra money each month to help stretch even the tightest of budgets. |
